Previous Campaign - SOW STALLS (2001-2002)

A sow stall is a metal crate used to house a pregnant pig for up to 16 weeks at a time. The pig cannot walk or turn around while in the crate. She can only stand up or lie down on the bare concrete floor. Kept in semi-darkness, she will repeatedly chew at the metal bars around her in frustration. This severe confinement leads to abnormal behaviour, leg weakness and injury.
