Animal welfare activist Margaret Doucas dies suddenly

Leading patent lawyer, philanthropist and animal welfare activist Margaret Doucas died suddenly on Thursday, leaving friends and family grieving and shocked.
Doucas had volunteered for SPCA Wellington since the age of 5 and was a long-serving SPCA board member who was instrumental in moving SPCA Wellington from rundown premises in Newtown to the old Fever Hospital at Mt Victoria.
SPCA Wellington chief executive Steve Glassey said Doucas, who had stood up for caged animals well before there were public campaigns, was ahead of her time in the fight against animal cruelty.
